II-VI pledges $100K for scholarships

II-VI Inc., which is headquartered in Clinton Township, has pledged $100,000 to the Optica Foundation’s Women in Optics Scholarship program.

II-VI, which engineers and manufactures optoelectronic components, will donate the amount over the next five years.

The scholarship, which is new at the Optica Foundation, will provide financial support of $10,000 each to 20 women over the next 10 years who are in optics programs.

II-VI is one of 10 major donors to contribute $100,000 to the program’s $2 million scholarship fund.

Vincent D. Mattera Jr., II-VI chair and CEO, said women scientists and engineers can be found throughout the global II-VI organization and that the company encourages women to become the future of optics, optoelectronics and photonics.
