Joseph H. 'Joe' Packer
Joseph H. “Joe” Packer, 95, of Butler passed away at 6:20 a.m. Saturday at HCR Manor Care.
He was born on March 12, 1919, in Wilkinsburg to the late Joseph H. Packer and Ella A. Rosien Packer.
He raised his family in Monroeville, then retired to New Hampshire, eventually returning to Butler.
Joe was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Packer worked in sales for the Braun Baking Co., retiring on Dec. 31, 1981. He was a member of the MORA Club.
Joe enjoyed gardening and traveling, having visited Scotland, England, Europe and the Holy Lands.
Mr. Packer is survived by his son, Richard N. Packer and his wife, Dorothy, of Pittsburgh; his two grandchildren, Julia E. Packer and Jeffrey D. Packer; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Packer, who he married on Sept. 13, 1947, and who passed away on April 11, 2007; his son, David J. Packer; his brother, Carl A. Packer; and his sister, Martha Doty.
Packer — The friends of Joseph H. “Joe” Packer, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Lenford of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America officiating.
