Police: Butler home invaded

Man attacked, robbed inside house near Memorial Park

Butler police are investigating a home invasion reported last week at a house near Memorial Park.

Police have no suspects but believe two men entered the home in the 500 block of Miller Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. May 14.

Scott Winrader, who lives at the house with his elderly parents, told investigators that one of the men attacked him with a crow bar, apparently after he confronted them.

Winrader said he was hit in the ribs and arm and suffered minor injuries. He did not seek medical treatment.

The suspects made a quick getaway but not before leaving with $10, Winrader’s driver’s license and his Access card, police said.

Police Capt. David Dalcamo said police do not know why the suspects targeted the house.

“Maybe they had the wrong house,” he said. “We don’t know.”

Investigators believe the men came through the back door, which was unlocked and “wide open,” Winrader told the Butler Eagle.

He said he was upstairs sleeping and his parents were downstairs watching television.

Winrader said he heard noises and when he headed down the stairs he saw the suspects dressed in dark clothing.

He confronted one of the men who attacked him and shoved him into the TV.

Neither Winrader nor his parents recognized either suspect.

They made their getaway, police said, in a silver or gray 1980s model Lincoln. The car was last seen northbound on Mercer Road.

The car, Winrader said, was “old and beat up.”

Both suspects are white; one is 6 feet tall and the other one is shorter. The taller man has brown hair and possibly had facial hair. The other man, too, may have had facial hair.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 724-287-7743.
