Fighting to free trapped driver
South Butler volunteer firefighters work to free Kristopher Barkus, 21, of Butler just after 9 p.m. Tuesday from his car that was mangled in a two-vehicle collision on Litman Road in front of the Butler Area Sewage Authority in Butler Township. A medical helicopter flew Barkus to UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh with serious injuries. He was in stable condition this morning. Township police said Barkus was westbound on Litman when he lost control of his speeding Ford Mustang, sideswiping another car and hitting a cement wall, steel post and fence. Barkus' car left 572 feet of skid marks in the crash that closed the road for two hours. Kelsey Nagle, 24, of Butler, who was driving the other car, was not injured. A passenger in Nagle's car, Robyn McLean, 26, of Butler, suffered a minor injury but refused medical treatment.
