Teens face hearings in assault, robbery of Butler Twp. man
A teenager faces a hearing this month for allegedly breaking a Butler Township man's nose with a metal pipe during an attempted strong-arm robbery in Butler.
City police on Friday found Daron Hanner, 18, of Pittsburgh hiding out at the Negley Avenue home of a friend.
Hanner, who is in the Butler County Prison, is the second man arrested in the July 24 assault that injured 23-year-old Jacob Fowler.
Police last week charged Travis Hilliard, 19, of 334½ Virginia Ave. in the same case. He also faces a hearing this month.
Fowler told police he was walking to a pizza shop about 11 p.m. when Hilliard and another man, whom he did not recognize, confronted him on West Penn Street and demanded money.
Fowler refused to turn over any money, prompting Hanner to order Hilliard to check the victim's pockets, according to court documents.
Hilliard allegedly punched Fowler in the face as the two struggled. Police said Hanner, wielding a metal pipe, also struck the victim in the face.
Bleeding from the assault, Fowler said he ran off and got away from his suspected assailants. He was later treated for injuries at Butler Memorial Hospital, where police spoke with him about the incident.
Fowler suffered a broken nose and other facial cuts and bruises, documents said.
Hilliard on July 25 turned himself in to police. Hanner was arrested a day after being identified as the second suspect, police said.
The defendants denied they tried to rob Fowler, and claimed no pipe was used in the fight that followed an altercation.
Hanner and Hilliard are charged with attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and simple assault. They are in the county prison in lieu of $25,000 bond each.
