Two vying for Franklin Twp. supervisor

Republican Nathan Wulff and Democrat Keith Kaib will face off during the Nov. 2 general election in a race for Franklin Township's supervisor position.

The winner will replace supervisor Janet Gray, whose term ends Dec. 31.

Wulff, who is the former chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Company and has been a Franklin Township resident for three years, said he had been planned on running for supervisor for some time.“I've been in the public sector for most of my adult life,” Wulff said. “I'd like to limit the role of local government to what's necessary.”If elected, Wulff intends to take action regarding the new property ordinance recently enacted by current supervisors. The ordinance enacted a noise regulation against any sound exceeding 60 decibels, which residents said makes activities such as shooting or working with tools illegal. The ordinance also declared it unlawful to have more than five mechanical equipment pieces in public view or to store a junk vehicle in plain view on public or private property.“Residents feel the ordinance goes above and beyond the responsibilities of the township,” Wulff said. “I'll listen to constituents and look for input to make an informed decision.”Wulff said the ordinance is only one concern and that he hopes to bring his strengths to the table for the township.“One strength I bring is communication, which comes from my experience as fire chief working with the public and local government,” Wulff said.

Kaib has been on the planning commission for the township for 11 years, and intends to continue giving back to the community if elected as a supervisor.“I feel I'm very blessed and experienced,” Kaib said. “I'd like to maintain the rural aspect of the community and give back.”Regarding the recent property ordinance, Kaib said he'd like to work with people on both sides of the argument.“The new property ordinance has divided people,” Kaib said. “I'd like to work on bringing people together by reaching out to them to have discussions about it.”Before moving to Franklin Township, Kaib was a member of Connoquenessing Township's planning commission for 10 years.
