Task force searches Chestnut Street house

Police find cash, suspected drugs

A bust late Tuesday night in Butler yielded more than 12 bricks of suspected heroin or fentanyl and charges against three people, police said.

Daniel F. Riemenschneider, 62, Deborah K. Riemenschneider, 61, and Joseph G. Daye, 49, were all arrested and charged after the Butler County Drug Task Force searched a home around 10 p.m. on the 200 block of Chestnut Street.

Following their arraignment, all three were placed in Butler County Prison on $250,000 bond each.

“The warrant is the result of an ongoing investigation into the sales of heroin or fentanyl and crack cocaine from this location by the Riemenschneiders and also Joseph Daye,” said task force Chief Timothy Fennell.

Fennell said the task force found 622 stamp bags of suspected heroin or fentanyl, 64 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a digital scale, two pages denoting drug sales and debts and $3,231 in cash as well as other paraphernalia.

Both Riemenschneiders have been charged, each with two felony counts of possession with intent to sell and one felony count criminal conspiracy. Daye has been charged with one felony count of possession with intent to sell and one felony count of criminal conspiracy.According to charging documents, Daye had been under investigation for selling drugs to a confidential informant, for which he also received a separate set of charges, including two felony counts of possession with intent to sell.“During this investigation, Joseph Daye was observed coming from the Riemenschneider residence on multiple occasions,” said the investigating detective.Detectives said at one point during their investigation, Daye told a confidential informant he was out of drugs, and then immediately following the interaction went to the Riemenschneiders' home.

“Daye then left and went to a different location, where a controlled purchase of crack cocaine was conducted,” detectives said.Detectives said on the day of the search, officers saw Daye arrive at the house and leave shortly afterward. Detectives said Deborah Riemenschneider then left the home, traveling toward Pittsburgh. Police said she returned before they searched the home.“Joseph Daye arrived at the residence on a bicycle as the residence was being prepared to be searched,” detectives said. “Daye was taken (immediately) into custody on an arrest warrant that stemmed from a sale of crack cocaine during this investigation.”The Riemenschneiders were arrested following the search. Two other people were in the home during the search, but charges have not been filed against them as of Thursday.
