Golfers moving on

Survive WPIAL section qualifiers in play this week

A number of Butler County golfers advanced from sectional qualifying this week.

Butler's Paige Scott carded a 73 Tuesday in the Section 4-3A girls event at Kittanning Country Club to reach the WPIAL final, scheduled Oct. 7 at Hannastown Golf Club.

Mars and Seneca Valley girls are scheduled to compete in the Section 1-3A qualifier Thursday at Suncrest Golf Course.

In Class 3A boys play at Shannopin Country Club, Seneca Valley senior Joel Goodzinski placed second with a 76 to reach Monday's semifinal round, scheduled for Cedarbrook Golf Course.

The Raiders also advanced Lucas Bruns (78), Luke Robertson (79) and Nolan Nicklas (80).

Butler golfers moving on include Colin Patterson (80) and Wyatt Kos (81).

Mars' Blake Bertolo (77) and Ryan Steigerwald (80) also advanced.

Freeport 216, Highlands 250 — Nate Covey earned medalist honors with a 39 for the Yellowjackets.

Lauren MacDonald scored the lone goal in North Catholic's 1-0 win at Quaker Valley.Rylee Kumer recorded two saves in the shutout for the Trojanettes (4-0, 7-0).

Slippery Rock 4, Greenville 2 — Cullen Birkes, Ethan Folmer, Nick Kingerski and Hunter Berry scored for the Rockets (3-2-2) in this Tuesday night game.Slippery Rock plays at Hickory Thursday.Hampton 2, Knoch 1 — Freshman Ethan Alwine scored the only goal for the Knights, assisted by senior captain Nick Dellarosa.

Karns City 3, Moniteau 2 — Rosalie Carden had three aces, 10 kills, 11 assists and eight digs for the Gremlins, who won the match 25-17, 23-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-6.Ava Fox contributed four aces, eight kills and seven digs, Ashley Fox an ace and 11 digs, Emma Johns three aces, 12 kills, 13 assists and four digs, Natalie Hess three aces, six kills and six digs for the Gremlins.
