Scoop's grid picks simply shine on

Week 5 ... halfway through the regular season for high school football.

It's hard to believe, seems just like yesterday that I was picking winners in the opening week.

You know what they say: Time flies when you're having fun. Of course, I fly no matter what.

I was 8-1 last week, taking my season record to 30-6.

Here's my latest attempt at avoiding a nosedive.

General McLane at Butler — The Golden Tornado hung with a very good McDowell team last week and that was without the services of quarterback-running back Cooper Baxter. Quarterback Mac Schnur and the potent air attack win this one going away.

Score: Butler 32-11

Knoch at Armstrong — Armstrong is a good team, but the River Hawks have lost two straight games by a combined 11 points.

Their quarterback, Cadin Olsen, will be a thorn in Knoch's side.

Score: Armstrong 34-14

Mars at Plum — Two teams in desperate need of a win, the Planets and Mustangs both enter this game 0-4.

The Planets have returned to their ground game and Evan Wright will have a big game Friday.

Score: Mars 24-10

East Allegheny at North Catholic — The Trojans looked very impressive last week despite the absence of starting quarterback Joey Prentice.

Backup Jason Siket stepped in and passed for five touchdowns at Valley.

Whoever calls the signals Friday, the Trojans march to yet another victory.

Score: North Catholic 39-15

Karns City at Brookville — The Gremlins return to the scene of last year's 44-0 loss to the Raiders. It was supposed to be a close game.

This one will be, in favor of KC.

Score: Karns City 30-24

Bradford at Moniteau — One thing the Owls can do is throw the ball — they're averaging nearly 300 yards passing per game.

But Moniteau is due for a breakout game on offense and the Warriors will feast on a weak Bradford defense.

Score: Moniteau 33-22

Elk County Catholic at Union/A-C Valley — The Crusaders did not play last week due to injuries depleting an already-small roster.

Their return to the field will be a frustrating one.

Score: Union/A-C Valley 36-6

Corry at Slippery Rock — The unbeaten Rockets have not played a close game all season, outscoring their three opponents 107-24.

That trend continues.

Score: Slippery Rock 42-7

Western Beaver at Summit Academy — The Knights' search for their first win will continue.

Score: Western Beaver 33-8

Scoop is looking forward to the cooler weather
