UPMC announces 2 execs in new leadership roles

UPMC announced on Wednesday two leadership changes that will become effective Oct. 1, with the goal of enhancing clinical operations, innovation and research.

Mark Sevco, currently president of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, will become president of UPMC Hospitals, a group of 40 academic, community and specialty hospitals, while Dr. Joon Lee will now oversee UPMC Physician Services' 4,200 employed doctors as president of the organization.

Sevco and Lee will co-lead the Health Services Division and report to newly-anointed UPMC president and CEO Leslie Davis.

“Mark and Joon are exceptional, dedicated leaders who will support our journey toward continued excellence in clinical care, patient excellence, research and innovation,” Davis said.

Both, Davis added, are seen as forward-thinking and find solutions to pressing health challenges.

Lee, in his current role as UPMC senior vice president and physician services president, is responsible for University of Pittsburgh Physicians and Community Medicine and the employed physicians and staff. He is an interventional cardiologist, and recently served as the insurance services division's chief medical officer.

Sevco has worked at UPMC for 30 years, including serving as chief operating officer of UPMC Pinnacle, president of UPMC East and McKeesport and vice president of operations for Presbyterian Shadyside.
