Freeport's Schaeffer keys CC victory

Freeport's Cassidy Dell (23) and Autumn English (19) go up for a block against Knoch's Alyssa Gallagher during the Yellowjackets' 3-0 home girls volleyball win Tuesday night.

Jacob Schaeffer led a strong effort from Freeport's boys cross country team, placing first overall in a tri-meet against Burrell and Highlands at Harrison Hills Park Tuesday afternoon.

Schaeffer finished with a time of 20 minutes, 21 seconds as the Yellowjackets defeated the Bucs (16-47) and Golden Rams (15-50).

Addy Kristofic was third overall in the girls competition, helping the 'Jackets to wins over Burrell (27-32) and Highlands (19-44).

Both Slippery Rock teams picked up two region wins at Buhl Park in Sharon, defeating the host Tigers and Wilmington.

The Rocket boys were paced by Viktor Zahn's first-place time of 19 minutes, 27 seconds.

The girls received a fifth-place effort from Samantha Frazier (24:38).

Karns City 15, Moniteau 46 (boys) — The Gremlins took the top six spots, led by freshman Griffen Booher with a time of 19:53.

Finishing second was Andrew Callihan (19:55), followed by James Hendell, Brennan Harmon, Reid Campbell and Landon Wilson.

No team scores were kept for the girls race, but Moniteau's Hannah Burgoon placed first with a time of 23:02.

KC's Brooke Griffith was second (25:20).

Freeport swept Knoch in Section 5-3A action with scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-17.Brynnae Coe had 18 assists for Knoch while Madison Gardner and Nina Szymanski both had five service points.No Freeport stats were available.Keystone 3, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins fell to the Panthers by scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 25-23.Rosalie Carden tallied nine assists and five digs for KC.Ashley Fox, Natalie Hess and Ava Fox each had three kills.Ashley Fox added 15 digs.Slippery Rock 3, Moniteau 2 — The Rockets (3-2) won this Monday match by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 17-25, 27-29, 15-12.
