PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed Mars graduate and right-handed relief pitcher David Bednar on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.

Bednar is 3-1 with a 2.18 earned run average and three saves this season. His ERA is second among all big league rookie relief pitchers, trailing only Cleveland’s Emmanuel Chase (1.46).

Bednar has made 10 consecutive scoreless appearances and has oproduced a 0.83 ERA in his last 30 games.
