LYNDORA — Their wait will soon be over.

The 55th Butler County Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner — honoring 10 individuals and the 1972 Karns City High School boys basketball team — will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Lyndora American Legion Hall.

Shawn Bellis, Fred Powell, Joe Heitzer, David Crummy, Jack Hartung, Olivia Bresnahan, Tyrell Sales, Bill McElroy, Don Hinchberger and the late John Benton are members of the HOF's 2020 class.

Their inductions were originally scheduled for April 25, 2020, but the event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was rescheduled for early August of that summer, only to be postponed again.

A brief look at the inductees follows:

Before Ethan Morton came along, this 1994 Butler graduate held the Golden Tornado boys basketball career scoring record of 1,466 points. He also held the single-season scoring record of 614 points and scored 47 points in a game against Freeport.Bellis played for Butler's 1991 WPIAL championship team.

Entering the Hall as a Lifetime Achievement honoree, Powell is an assistant coach for Butler's varsity wrestling team. Now in his 70's, he has a long list of achievements in the sport.Powell formed the Slippery Rock High School wrestling team. He was an NAIA and NCAA national championship wrestler in college at Slippery Rock and later served as head wrestling coach at SRU from 1967 through 1991.

For at least 50 years, Benton umpired Butler Prep League baseball games, church games, Eagle County, Greater Pittsburgh area games and local collegiate games.He also worked the press gate for Pittsburgh Pirate games in Bradenton, Fla., for a number of years.

A 1939 Butler graduate, Heitzer set WPIAL records in the 200 low hurdles in 1937 and 1938. He was MVP of the Butler track team in 1939.He also won numerous local and state golf championships, along with a state bowling title.

This 1979 Mars graduate was a versatile athlete, competing in football, basketball, track and baseball. He had a two-year batting average of .500 in baseball.An all-state football player, he went on to play for Penn State as a defensive end before a severe knee injury his sophomore year prematurely ended his playing career.

A 1962 Butler graduate, Hartung played for the basketball team at the newly opened high school and was the leading scorer in Section 1A in 1962. He also ran for the Golden Tornado's newly formed cross country team. Both teams were coached by Ed Hepe.Hartung went on to play basketball for Virginia Military Institute and participated in the NCAA Tournament.

This 2010 Butler graduate scored 1,395 points for the Golden Tornado girls basketball team, ranking fourth on the program's all-time list. She was a first team, all-state Class AAAA selection.Bresnahan went on to play college basketball at Florida State and Duquesne.

This 2004 Butler graduate was a three-sport standout for the Golden Tornado. He was a three-year starter at linebacker in football, scored well over 1,000 points in basketball and was a top thrower on the track and field team.Sales went on to play football at Penn State and was a two-year starter there, playing in four bowl games. He started 23 consecutive games.

A 1993 Butler graduate, McElroy lettered for four years in football and track and field, and played basketball as well. He was named Field MVP in track and best offensive lineman on the football team.Rated one of the top 100 scholastic players in the country, he went on to play football at West Virginia University and served as an assistant football and track coach at Butler for many years.

Considered one of the most outstanding distance runners in Butler High School history, Hinchberger held the school record in the 880-yard run for 15 years. He was a top-10 finisher at the WPIAL Cross Country Championships.He also ran for Butler's 4x100 relay that was ranked fifth in the country.Karns City 1972 boys basketballThe Gremlins were state runner-up in Class A that season, winning 26 games and losing two. Wayne Grazier was selected Clarion County League Coach of the Year.Team members were Bill Kusick, Bob McElroy, Kevin Callihan, Dave Schrecongost, Don Black, Ed Price, Mike Smith, Kirk DuBois, Dave Miller, Joel Bell, Bill Hipple, Dennis Ellis, Jeff Baker, Ernie Molchany, Duane Fair, Ken Knox and Tom Kusick.
