Butler golf bests Seneca Valley

Butler's Maisy Gibson looks to spike Thursday against Armstrong at Butler High School. Butler lost the match 3-1.

Seneca Valley's Nolan Nicklas and Butler's Colin Patterson both shot a 37, but it was the Golden Tornado who came away with a 202-208 boys golf section victory at Butler Country Club Thursday afternoon.

Hunter Swidzinski contributed a 40 for Butler (4-2, 6-2).

Knoch 215, Freeport 227 — The Knights won this match at Buffalo Golf Course.

Knoch (3-3) was led by Cory Voltz's 38 and Connor Squartino added a 41.

Jayden Diehl's 44 paced Freeport.

District 10 — In a Region 2 match at Tanglewood Golf Course, Slippery Rock's Jacob Wolak and Jack Hadley carded the two best scores with a 75 and 78, respectively.

The Rockets placed fourth out of seven teams with 364 total strokes.

Hickory was first with 340, led by a 78 from Zach Lanshcak.

District 9 — Jacob Felsing of Moniteau continued his strong season by carding a 39 to place first individually at KSAC Mega Match #5 at Hunter's Station Golf Course.

Connor Ealy shot a 52 for the Warriors, who finished third as a team with 261 strokes.

Clarion took first place with 222.

Max Southworth paced A-C Valley/Union with a 56.

Braden Grossman shot a 58 for Karns City.

Brooke Galcik scored all three of Knoch's goals in a 3-1 section victory at Armstrong on Wednesday.Contributing assists were Macrina Robb, Gretta Dadowski and Megan Vasas.Paige Rodgers made two saves in net for the Knights (1-0).

Karns City's Colson Ritzert, Myles McCully and Adam Smith each deposited a goal as the Gremlins blanked Redbank Valley, 3-0.Lathan Price handed out two assists and Smith one. The Bulldogs could muster only one shot.Fox Chapel 3, Butler 2 (2OT) — The Golden Tornado received goals from Evan Lubinsky and Landon Mohney.Aiden Wisda and Cody Lubinsky had assists.It was the first loss of the season for Butler (1-1, 3-1).

Ava Plunkard had eight kills and 17 digs, but Butler dropped a 3-1 decision at home to Armstrong.Taylor Welter added seven kills and 17 digs and Maisy Gibson nine kills and 25 digs for Butler.The Golden Tornado fell by scores of 22-25, 20-25, 25-22 and 17-25.Freeport 3, Highlands 0 — Grace Beach had 16 points and nine aces for Freeport, which won by scores of 25-6, 25-14 and 25-9.Cassidy Dell added 13 points and five kills, while Erica Lampus put up nine points and five kills as well.Amber Shirey had eight points. Alaina Whitlinger had seven points and five kills.A-C Valley 3, Union 0 — The Falcons completed the sweep of the visiting Damsels by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 21-16.Meah Ielase tallied nine digs, eight service points and seven kills while teammate Lexi Ruckdeschel had 13 digs and three blocks.The Falcons also received 12 assists from Jenna Stefanacci and 14 service points and five aces from Paige Klingler.Mars 3, Burrell 2 — The Planets evened their record at 1-1, with Lauren Atwell tallying 18 kills and 10 digs.Lucie Morlino had 11 kills and four aces.
