2 motorcyclists killed Friday evening

Crashes within an hour of each other

Two motorcyclists died Friday in separate crashes a little more than an hour apart in Butler County.

According to reports, a Greensburg man was killed in a crash in Fairview Township shortly after a Butler motorcyclist died in Butler Township.

According to state police, Brian D. Keller, 50, of Greensburg, was alone when he crashed his 2006 Harley-Davidson at around 7:05 p.m. along Kittanning Pike near Pine Road, across from Karns City High School.

Police said Keller had been riding north when he lost control of the motorcycle. Police said after leaving the road, Keller hit a ditch and then hit a car wash sign, both on the east side of the road.

Police said Karns City Regional Ambulance Service attempted to take Keller, who was suspected of having a serious injury at the time, to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. It was unclear from the report when and where Keller died.

The Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene for about an hour, with the scene clearing around 8 p.m.

While crews worked at the scene in Fairview Township, a separate set of crews was still on the scene of a different crash in Butler Township.

Butler Township Police responded to a two-vehicle crash around 6:02 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Route 422, between the Mercer and Duffy Road overpasses.

According to a news release by Butler Township police, the 42-year-old Butler man died from injuries suffered when his motorcycle slammed into the back of an SUV. Police said the three people inside the SUV were not injured.

Butler Township, Butler City and Connoquenessing fire departments remained on scene for nearly 3½ hours, clearing at about 9:30 p.m. Firefighters helped direct traffic around the scene, which included the closure of Route 422 East from Route 356 to Route 8.

Police said they would continue to investigate the crash and provide additional information when it became available.
