Severe weather expected this afternoon, evening

Butler County residents should be on alert for poor weather conditions later today.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh issued a hazardous weather outlook Monday for Butler County.

“Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop by this afternoon in advance of a crossing cold front,” the outlook said. “Damaging wind will be the dominant threat, but tornadoes and large hail are also possible, especially with more discrete convection.”

According to the service's forecast, showers and thunderstorms are most likely to come after 3 p.m.

The forecast said during the storms, wind speeds will likely average between 14 to 16 mph, but gusts can reach as high as 30 mph.

The service also expects showers and thunderstorms until about 1 a.m. Showers are more likely than thunderstorms into the night, the service said.

The forecast goes on to predict weather will be mild throughout the week, until another stormfront is expected to arrive over the weekend.
