Butler Area School District reviews health, safety plan

The Butler Area School District board reviewed an updated COVID-19 health and safety policy at Monday's meeting that is necessary for the district to receive federal money through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund.

The board asked the district superintendent and solicitor to review and possibly reorganize part of the safety policies, which would be posted on the district's website when completed.

The safety plan includes guidelines on COVID-19 mitigation efforts, including the district's policy on mask-wearing, vaccination and air circulation within buildings.

District superintendent Brian White said guidance from the federal and state government regarding ESSER funds has been difficult to navigate. School districts have to follow certain guidelines in order to receive ESSER money.

“It creates so much confusion on so many issues,” White said. “Everyone's heads are spinning.”

Although the district must have a written plan, White said it will have to be reviewed in six months and can be amended.
