Becky Petsinger has lived on West Brady Street for her entire life, which has come with the routine hazard of cleaning up mud and debris from the road almost every time it rains.

On Wednesday afternoon, residents of the neighborhood grabbed rakes and shovels as buckets of water dumped from the sky into the Sullivan Run waterway that runs under the block. It quickly filled up and deposited mud and debris onto the street.

“You wouldn't believe the hardships on this block,” Petsinger said. “They literally have to go out there and pull the branches and debris from the street. A few years ago we lost everything in our basement.”

The 500 block of West Brady Street remained covered in mud even after the rain decreased to a drizzle Wednesday afternoon. Butler City Police officers blocked off the road as residents raked tree branches and other debris into their yards, which was the only place they could put it.The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh warned Butler County and the surrounding area about scattered thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon. It also warned of flash flooding where storms persisted.Natalie Franko, a landlord who has owned property on the street for 30 years, said she received multiple calls from her tenants about the flooding around 4 p.m. She said she has asked Butler officials to do something to mitigate the flooding, but they are still awaiting action.“We want something done; we're sick of it,” Franko said. “As soon as it rains, I know I'm probably not going to be able to sleep tonight. It's very frustrating to the people on the block.”A Butler County dispatcher said West Penn Street, North Main Street, East Brady Street, West Brady Street at Hayes Avenue, West Cunningham Street, West Jefferson Street and McCalmont Road had all been closed at some point due to flooding. At approximately 6 p.m., West Penn Power was reporting on its website that 19 Butler County customers were experiencing power outages.A staff member at the Butler YMCA said North Washington Street was flooded with water around 4:30 p.m. The YMCA was then evacuated, according to a Y member.<iframe width="100%" height="450" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/C80wv0TmZ-c" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
