A Clearfield Township woman said she thought she was in control of her life before shooting her 15-year-old son in the leg.

Jenny Lee Gaiser, 38, of Chicora spoke Thursday about the November shooting during her sentencing for aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

County Judge William Shaffer sentenced Gaiser to 1 to 2 years in jail followed by 18 months of probation. Gaiser appeared by video from the Butler County Prison.

“Prior to this, I thought I was in control of my life,” Gaiser said. “This has opened my eyes that I was not dealing with issues in my life, and I chose to self-medicate. I want to take care of my issues.”

As part of Gaiser's sentence, she must undergo a mental health evaluation and follow any recommended treatments.

Gaiser was charged in November after a fight started with her son pouring beer into the toilet.
