Big Butler Fair returns this summer

The Big Butler Fair board of directors has announced that the fair will be conducted this summer.

The 2020 fair was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Harold Dunn, board member, confirmed on Wednesday morning that the board voted at its Tuesday evening meeting to hold the event from Friday, July 2, to Saturday, July 10, at the Big Butler Fairgrounds on Route 422 in Franklin Township.

“We reviewed the protocol from the governor’s office and we are certainly able to do what needs to be done,” Dunn said. “We are excited to open back up, and we are going to have the 165th Big Butler Fair.”

Dunn said the only other fair to be canceled in the event’s history was during the Civil War in the 1860s.

“It’s always been a great benefit to the community, economically and socially,” Dunn said, “and the kids can get back into the show ring with their animals. It’s just time to get restarted.”
