NWS issues special weather statement for Butler County Thursday morning

County motorists may have to deal with icy spots and limited visibility this morning, according to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service.

The NWS Pittsburgh office issued the statement at 6:31 a.m. Thursday morning, advising drives to slow down, increase the distance between vehicles and exercise extra caution when crossing bridges and overpasses.

The NWS warns of southeastward-moving snow showers in the areas near and between Interstate 80 and US Highway 422.

Visibility may be one mile or less in some areas and icy spots may have formed in areas where snow has compacted on the road.

Impacted counties include Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Mercer and Venango.

The special weather statement is set to expire at 8 a.m. Thursday.
