“May I see your ID?”

An issue within Georgia’s new voting law, that some are crying foul over, is the ID requirement for absentee voting.

Previously, a legal resident in Georgia only had to sign the ballot. Now that person must include their driver’s license number or state-issued ID. If you don’t have a license, the state provides a free voters ID card.

Most recently I have had to produce my drivers license for a COVID-19 test, for a return at Lowe’s, to pass through security at the airport, for a blood test, to buy alcohol, to rent a pressure washer, to pick up a phone at the Apple store and to have dinner at a restaurant in Salt Lake City. Today showing one’s ID has become a way of life.

Coca Cola, Delta Air Lines, Major League Baseball and a few “Hollywood types” have jumped into this vortex. My advice to those entities: leave politics to the elected officials and stay within your wheelhouse.

Some believe that this ID requirement will restrict or depress some voters. I find it hard to believe that producing your ID could in any way hinder the ability to vote, no matter what race, color or creed that is involved.

At 65, I have never had a problem voting. If you really want to vote, then vote.
