Freeport and Knoch boys, Mars girls fall

Coming off its first playoff win in 12 years, the Freeport boys basketball team faced a stiff test at WPIAL Class 4A No. 1 seed Belle Vernon.

The Yellowjackets fell behind 25-11 after the first quarter and couldn't recover in an 80-49 loss at Belle Vernon Thursday night.

Conner Holloway and Jason Kijowski each scored 10 points to lead Freeport.

Belle Vernon had a trio of players score more than 20 points, led by 25 by Quinton Martin.
