Firefighter with COVID-19 shows improvement

Nicole and Greg Vickinovac

A member of the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company continues to suffer from the aftermath of the coronavirus, but his wife said there are signs of improvement.

Greg Vickinovac, 41, of Adams Township was placed on a ventilator Feb. 25 after he contracted COVID-19.

Last weekend, 40 to 45 friends and family from various fire departments stood outside UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless to show their support for Vickinovac, who is a patient there.

Greg's wife, Nicole Vickinovac, said Friday that he is still on a ventilator, but the hospital's staff is seeing improvements.

“Takes time for COVID patients to heal, and it's better to go slower,” she said. “They're hoping that beginning of next week, they'll try to do breathing trials to see how he responds to that.”
