Town Crier

At its Wednesday meeting, the Butler County Board of Commissioners:

- Approved Gordian/Clark Contractors to inspect a gable wall on the north side of the courthouse that has moved away from the structure by more than an inch. The contractor will provide an engineer analysis of the issue for the county. The county will pay the contractor $1,300 for engineering services and an hourly rate of $150, not to exceed $1,200, for additional services that may be required.

- Ratified a contract amendment with Alliance for Nonprofit Resources to add the Vaccination Call Center for $300,000. The program, which allows senior citizens to schedule COVID-19 vaccines by calling a county number instead of scheduling online, is funded by a coronavirus program through the state Emergency Management Agency.

- Approved the appointment of Shawn Pugh, Slippery Rock borough manager, to the county Drug & Alcohol Advisory Board for a three-year term expiring Feb. 28, 2024.

- Approved the second phase of the Summit Township playground in the amount of $8,820. The funds will come from a grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Swing sets, a safety surface, Americans with Disabilities Act access and other features will be added to the playground.

- Heard Lance Welliver, county parks and recreation director, report that Alameda Park shelter rental will now be available online. Up to this year, those looking to rent a shelter at the park had to gather at the parks and recreation department on a certain date in hopes of getting their date and time slot. Welliver said online registration for parks and recreation programs has gone well, so adding shelter rental seemed feasible. Online shelter rental will be available starting Friday at butlercountypa.gov. Click on “parks and recreation.”

- Approved an addendum to the county’s agreement with Election Systems & Software, which provided the county’s new voting equipment and help with the primary and general elections. The reason for the addendum is that the county has met the maximum total amount they agreed to pay ES&S for services. The addendum removes the cap, so the county can pay ES&S for future services.
