The number of COVID-19 vaccination doses given in Pennsylvania is approaching 2.5 million, including more than 30,000 in Butler County.

The Department of Health reported 2,483,631 doses were administered through March 1, including 1,720,898 first doses and 762,733 second doses. A person is considered fully covered after receiving two doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

In the county, 16,711 people have received one dose and 15,621 people have received both doses.

Statewide there are 1,715 people hospitalized, including 366 people in intensive care. Most people hospitalized are age 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients age 65 or older.

The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is about 4,100 lower than it was at the peak on Dec. 25 and below the average at the height of the spring peak on May 3.

In nursing and personal care homes, 67,031 residents and 13,144 employees have the virus. Out of the total deaths in the state, 12,470 are residents of nursing or personal care facilities. About 24,886 of the total cases are among health care workers.

The department also reported 2,564 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 935,834, and 74 new deaths, bringing the total to 24,100.

In the county, 22 new cases raised the total to 8,967. No new deaths were reported.
