OAKLAND TWP — Fire crews responded around 10 a.m. Sunday to a garage fire on the 200 block of Route 68 that threated the adjacent home.

There were initial fears the fire could catch the house, authorities said.

Flames melted the vinyl siding of the house, but quick action by the firefighters kept the fire from spreading to the home just a few feet away.

The two-stall garage, a metal pole building, was destroyed. A utility terrain vehicle and other property in the garage was also destroyed.

The garage had electricity, but the cause was not immediately known.

A trooper said a motorist flagged him down in the Lick Hill area and reported the fire.

The trooper was first on scene and made sure the homeowners were safely out of the home.

Firefighters bean packing their equipment around 11 a.m.
