James Michael Hortert, 82, of Butler passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021

James Michael Hortert, 82, of Butler passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021.

He was born June 12, 1938, in Butler, and was the son of the late Ferdinand and Anna (Kovacik) Hortert.

Jim served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

He then worked as a plumber and contractor for most of his career, and was a life member of the Steamfitters Union, Local 449.

Jim loved nothing more than golfing in his spare time. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was the loving husband of Dianna (Cumberland) Hortert, since their marriage in 1960; the father of James (Laurie) Hortert Jr., Denise (Richard) Holes, Lexie (Kent) Brown and Tracy (Randy) Salyer; and the grandfather of James “Trey” III, Zachary, Bryan Jr., Nicole, Trevor, Courtney, Casey and Tanner.

He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Donald Hortert, Dorothy Beblo, Frances Uram, Patricia Goephert and Julia Lacuesta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Roland and William Hortert.

HORTERT — Friends of James Michael Hortert, who died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at SPENCER D.
