Robert A. Stroup, age 81, of Harborcreek, PA

Robert A. Stroup, 81, of Harborcreek, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021.

He was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Karns City, and was the son of the late Russell A. and M. Oleta (Campbell) Stroup.

Robert had lived in Harborcreek since 1963. He taught industrial arts for 40 years, 38 of them at Harbor Creek High School, where he was also a basketball coach for boys and girls for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1967. He had served as usher and on church council as well as a member of the property committee.

Robert was a founding father of the Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity at California University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1961.

An Eagle Scout at age 14 in Butler County, Bob served on the staff at Camp Bucoco for three years. Robert also served Harborcreek Boy Scout Troop 151 as a committee member, accompanying the young men to Philmont, N.M. in 1990.

He was an avid Pittsburgh sports teams fan of the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite leisure activities. He was a member of the Lawrence Park Fish Club. Woodworking was another of his hobbies, having made many pieces of furniture. He was active in the Harborcreek Historical Society in the early days of its inception. He particularly enjoyed his regular Monday morning breakfasts with the retired men teachers of Harborcreek, since his retirement in 2001.

He married the former Carlene Klein in 1961, in Bethel Park.

He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Christine Stroup-Benham and her husband, Tobin, of Costambar, Dominican Republic; his daughter, Carol Sue Walters and her husband, O.D. “Ponch,” of Flower Mound, Texas; and her son, Robert Adam and his wife Laura, of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.

He is also survived by the joys of his life, four grandchildren, Victoria “Tori” Walters, and Hanna, Rudy, and Charlotte Stroup; one brother, Richard and his wife, Nancy Stroup, of Evans City; and several nieces and nephews.

STROUP — Friends of Robert A. Stroup, who died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kloecker-Bailey Funeral Home and Crematory, Erie.Friends are invited to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church.Burial will be at North East Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 E.
