County adds 1 death, sets another virus case record

Butler County on Saturday added one new death and set another record high in new confirmed cases of coronavirus.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health's report Saturday, an additional 95 positive test results were attributed to the county.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,598 county residents have tested positive for COVID-19 and 55 residents have died due to the virus.

Saturday's record surpassed Wednesday's single-day record of 90 new confirmed cases.

The county has added 1,075 confirmed cases since the beginning of November, essentially adding in one month what took the county roughly seven months to accumulate.

Butler County's first confirmed case was reported on March 21. The county didn't reach the first 1,075 total confirmed cases until Oct. 8.

The county has averaged about 56 new confirmed cases per day over the last two weeks. For the entire month of October, the county averaged about 16 new confirmed cases per day.

The state continues to call for residents to help stop the spread of the virus by limiting social gatherings, including holidays, as well as wearing masks, practicing proper hygiene and maintaining a six-foot distance from others.

The state Department of Health has also encouraged residents to download the COVID Alert phone application that will alert users anonymously when they've been in proximity to someone who has COVID-19 or has been in contact with someone who has the virus.

Data for Sunday was unavailable for this report because the Department of Health produces a two-day report on Mondays, including data for Sunday and Monday.

Also in Saturday's report, the Department of Health removed data for negative tests and replaced it with a new set of data without explanation.

The department was closed on Saturday and Sunday for clarification.
