Roads closed Saturday for president's visit

The Penn Township police announced all-day road closures near the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport on Saturday in anticipation of a visit by President Donald Trump.

Officer Alyssa Mathews said all of West Airport Road will be closed from 8 a.m. until Trump’s departure on Saturday night.

Two sections of Three Degree Road near the airport will also be closed beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Mathews said Three Degree from Meadowbrook Road to West Airport Road will be closed to all but homeowners in the closed section.

Three Degree Road from Airport Road to North Trail also will be closed during those hours, she said.

Mathews said five officers from Penn Township and five from Middlesex Township will handle traffic control all day Saturday and provide security at the airport from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday.

“We’ll ensure no one goes into or out of the airport,” Mathews said.

The closure of the roads will cause restrictions for the Butler Country Club, which can only be accessed from the areas that will be closed all day Saturday.

Michele Ruth, general manager at the country club, said the last day of the month is always the busiest for dinner guests, who were emailed that the restaurant would be closed.

Club members with tee times were also notified that the course will be closed due to the president’s visit.

“It’s very unfortunate,” Ruth said. “I’m very thankful we didn’t have an event planned for the day.”

She thought of all the businesses across the country that are in the same boat as Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden vie for the presidency.

“I never thought about it, but this probably happens at every rally,” Ruth said. “Republican, Democrat, it doesn’t matter.”
