Rough 2nd quarter hurts SR in 28-7 loss

Hickory exploded for three touchdowns in the second quarter following a scoreless first frame Saturday night and went on to a 28-7 home football victory over Slippery Rock.

Michael Henwood threw a pair of touchdown passes and opened the scoring with a 41-yard TD run for the Hornets (6-0). Henwood completed 22 of 30 passes for 275 yards and carried the ball 15 times for 123 yards.

Slippery Rock's lone touchdown was a 23-yard scoring pass from William Mokel to John Sabo. Shane Thompson paced the Rockets' ground game with 48 yards on 11 carries.

Jackson Pryta caught a 41-yard scoring pass and Ramarion Whitehead had an 18-yard touchdown catch for Hickory. Whitehead had 10 receptions for 151 yards.

Slippery Rock (2-4) qualified for the District 10 playoffs as Corry opted out of postseason play. The Rockets will face Hickory for a third time this season when the playoffs get under way Oct. 30 at Hickory.

Luca Fusca scored three goals as Butler defeated Freeport, 6-3. Landon Mohney contributed two goals and two assists.Ian Llewellyn scored a goal while Carson Knight had two assists, Evan Lubinsky and Cody Lubinsky one each.<b>Knoch 3, Slippery Rock 2 —</b> The Knights got this win in double overtime. Ethan Folmer scored both goals for Slippery Rock.

McKenna Martin and Cece Morrow scored goals as Karns City shut out DuBois, 2-0.Jill Morrow and Emma Dailey had assists on the goals.

Sophia Tennent had seven aces as Moniteau defeated Karns City, 3-1. Scores were 16-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-17.Ciona dePrano tallied seven kills and two blocks, Ivie Scott an ace and nine kills, Aslyn Pry 13 kills and Logan Barnhart 30 assists for the Warriors.Morgan Smith had six kills and three digs, Rosalie Carden three aces and four digs, Emma Johns three aces and four digs, Amber Maurer and Shavon McCanna four digs each, Ava Fox seven digs and two aces.<b>A-C Valley 3, Union 0 —</b> Andrea Meals had 13 kills and 11 digs and Mia Sherman pitched in 10 kills as the Falcons (8-3) swept the Damsels, 25-14, 25-7, 27-25.Dominika Logue had six kills to lead Union.
