One new death, 28 COVID cases reported in Butler County

Another Butler County resident had died from COVID-19 and 28 more confirmed cases of the virus were reported in the county on Friday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county death toll increased from 25 on Thursday to 26 on Friday, and the number of new cases increased from 1,157 to 1,185, according to a department report.

Probable cases increased from 162 to 180 and the number of negative tests also increased from 24,440 to 24,833.

The Karns City Area School District reported that a high school employee tested positive and the South Butler County School District reported that a teacher who works in the primary and intermediate elementary schools tested positive Thursday. The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District reported a case Tuesday.

Statewide, there were 1,566 new cases and 46 additional deaths, raising the totals to 179,086 and 8,457, respectively. The state recovery rate remained at 80%.

In surrounding counties, Allegheny had 13,037 confirmed cases, 192,113 negative tests and 387 deaths; Armstrong had 520 cases, 7992 negative tests and 19 deaths; Beaver had 2,047 cases, 22,452 negative tests and 136 deaths; Clarion had 132 cases, 3,684 negative tests and 3 deaths; Lawrence had 589 cases, 8,588 negative tests and 24 deaths; Mercer had 765 cases, 13,131 negative tests and 25 deaths; Venango had 111 cases, 5,323 negative tests and 1 death; Westmoreland had 3,020 cases, 47,607 negative tests and 66 deaths.
