Trump nominates Barrett for Supreme Court

Amy Coney Barrett

In a Saturday evening press conference, President Donald Trump formally nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill a vacant seat on the Supreme Court.

If approved by the Senate, Barrett would take the seat of former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ginsburg died Sept. 18 from complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Barrett serves as a circuit judge on the seventh circuit for the U.S. Court of Appeals and is widely reviewed as a conservative pick.

Barrett was originally nominated by Trump in 2017 as a potential Supreme Court candidate.
