The city of Butler is encouraging residents to sign up for the free CodeRED community notification system for emergencies and community events.

City Councilman Jeff Smith said 2,000 residents were called Wednesday to tell them about the system and how to register.

To register, residents and businesses should go to the city website at www.cityofbutler.org, click on the CodeRED logo located on the bottom of the home page, and enter contact information, including phone number and email address.

Another option is to text BUTLERPA to 99411, click on the link and enroll from there.

Smith asked the 2,000 residents to encourage other residents who might not have received a call to register.
