GRADUATES

Elizabeth Marie Spingola

Elizabeth Marie Spingola graduated with a doctorate of philosophy degree in engineering education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va. The topic of her doctoral thesis was “Understanding the Relationships Between Disability, Engineering and the Design of Engineering Course Websites Through Disabled Engineering Students’ Perspectives.”

At Virginia Tech, Spingola served as president of the disability alliance and was co-chairwoman of the university disability caucus.

She is an inducted member and treasurer of Iota Delta Rho, an interdisciplinary research honor society and is a member of the Academy for Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence. She is an elected member of the Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society established through Yale University and is the recipient of the Sally Bohland Award for exceptional leadership and innovative service in access and inclusion. She also serves as a representative for the university commission for equal opportunity and diversity.

She is a 2010 graduate of Butler High School, a 2014 graduate of Ohio Northern University and a 2018 graduate of Virginia Tech with a master’s degree in data analytics and applied statistics.

She has accepted a position with IBM Global in Washington, D.C., as a senior cognitive solutions and data engineering consultant in the federal sector.

She is the daughter of Dr. Charles Spingola and Dr. Kathy Schweikart Spingola of Butler.
