WPIAL supports PIAA efforts to keep fall sports

WPIAL executive director Amy Scheuneman issued a statement Monday morning supporting the PIAA decision to meet with Gov. Tom Wolf in efforts to have high school sports this fall.

Scheuneman described Wolf’s strong recommendation to postpone high school sports until Jan. 1 as “uncharacteristic, indecent and unfair” after the state issued health guidelines for summer workouts only a month earlier.

She added that the WPIAL would entertain any proposal to break up fall sports, such as having tennis and golf in the fall, others in the spring.

As of now, WPIAL football remains scheduled to begin Sept. 10.
