PIAA delays fall sports for 2 weeks

Seneca Valley junior varsity football team members run a defensive line drill on July 20, 2020, at NextTier Stadium.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association's (PIAA) Board of Control voted by a 30-2 margin Friday to delay a decision on whether to move ahead with fall sports by two weeks.

Friday's meeting was in reaction to Gov. Tom Wolf's strong recommendation Thursday to delay all school and recreational athletics until at least Jan. 1. The PIAA plans to reach out and form a partnership with Gov. Wolf's office to reach an ultimate decision on the fall sports season.

The PIAA Board plans to reconvene Aug. 21. In the meantime, voluntary high school athletic workouts are permitted to continue. Mandatory fall sports activities have been pushed back to Aug. 24.
