9:21 a.m. Friday — David W. Schuster, 29, of Butler allegedly assaulted and strangled his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at a home on Mackey Avenue. He is charged in an arrest warrant with a felony count of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of simple assault.

Police said the victim told them she got into an argument with Schuster earlier that morning and ended their relationship. She later packed her belongings and went to her cousin’s house.

She recounted that the defendant followed her into the house and grabbed her by the arm, twisting it, which caused her “extreme pain,” according to court documents. He is accused of placing her in a choke hold to the point that she was unable to breathe or talk. The woman later went to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of her arm pain.

The victim’s cousin, police noted, witnessed the altercation.

Wednesday — Police charged Damien M. Large, 18, of Butler in the May theft of two compound archery bows from a home on the 300 block of East Locust Street. The victim discovered the missing items, valued at $200 each, from his basement and notified police May 10.

Large is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of theft.

11:30 p.m. July 14 — A car driven by Richard Bothell, 56, of Butler struck a black bear on Route 22 west. Bothell was not injured, but his car had to be towed. The bear was killed.

July 13 — John J. Scarnato, 40, of Butler was charged with being nearly two-and-a-half times the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a suspected hit-and-run crash the prior week. He is accused of failing to immediately stop shortly before 12:30 a.m. July 8 after his sport utility vehicle struck a vehicle that was parked on the 700 block of East Pearl Street.

Police said they found Scarnato a short time later at his nearby home. He was taken for a breath test, which allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.195 percent, according to court documents. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.195 percent is considered intoxicated.

He is charged with driving under the influence and hit-and-run.

July 13 — Police charged Eric L. Powers, 38, of Butler with climbing over a fence at a home on the 200 block of South Monroe Street last month. Police said they were called for the incident around 9:55 p.m. May 18. The victim told police that he did not know the suspect, nor did he give him permission to be on the property.

Powers is charged with defiant trespass.

1:13 p.m. Sunday — Declan Graham, 17, of Butler was injured when the vehicle he was driving struck a utility pole along North McKean Street near Ritts Park Drive. He suffered a minor injury and the vehicle had to be towed. Police said the teen was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

1:03 a.m. Saturday — Wyatt J. McDeavitt, 21, of Boyers lost control of his vehicle while traveling in reverse “at a high rate of speed,” police said, and struck the center jersey barrier on the westbound lane of Route 422 between Mercer Road and Route 8. The vehicle had to be towed.

McDeavitt suffered a minor head injury, but he refused medical treatment, according to police. Four passengers in the vehicle were not injured. He was cited for driving the wrong way, improperly backing up a vehicle on a highway, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving and giving false information.

11:22 a.m. Friday — Heather J. Chernek, 34, of Erie was allegedly found with marijuana and other drug contraband after police were called to assist state parole officers in serving a warrant for her at the Hampton Inn at Butler Crossing. She is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

July 9 — A Beaver County man was arrested after a traffic stop on Route 8 south. Police said the defendant, Kenneth Solomon, 43, of Beaver Falls, a passenger, at one point took off running after he got out of the car. A Taser was deployed and he was stopped.

A search of Solomon, according to court documents, turned up three baggie corners of suspected crack cocaine, one baggie corner of suspected cocaine, and a digital scale. In the car, owned by Khris T. Dietrich, 35, of Beaver Falls, were allegedly three suspected marijuana blunts near the center console.

Solomon was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Dietrich was charged by summons with misdemeanor counts of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle with suspended registration and driving a vehicle without insurance.

June 23 — Troy D. Clark, 49, of Hermitage, Mercer County, was charged with DUI stemming from a one-vehicle crash in May on Route 422. Police said his vehicle struck an embankment, speed limit sign and construction signs around 9:15 p.m. May 29 before it rolled onto its roof. He was not injured, but the vehicle had to be towed.

In addition to DUI, Clark is charged with driving too fast for conditions, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and reckless driving.

6 p.m. June 18 — Bradley S. Cramer, 31, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly shoplifted an electronic item, valued at $498, at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. He is charged with a felony count of retail theft, a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property and a summary count of defiant trespass.

11:59 p.m. July 10 — Kyle R. Wenzel, 24, of Cranberry Township was arrested on charges he broke into a house on Watters Station Road in Forward Township and assaulted three people. He also allegedly threatened one of the victims, a man who lives there, saying he had “a bullet with (the man’s) name on it.”

Police later contacted Wenzel, according to court documents, who told them he was invited to a party and was “jumped” by 30 people. Police said they found him with a piece of wax paper with suspected marijuana residue on it.

He was arraigned on felony charges of burglary and trespass and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also is charged with three summary counts of harassment. He is free on $10,000 bail.
