CRANBERRY TWP — It's the headquarters to a nuclear power company, but its new tenant is a natural gas company. And in the Seneca Valley School District, the name is apropos.

Seneca Resources Company, a natural gas company based in Houston, Texas, applied for and received an occupancy permit to move into the Westinghouse Electric Company campus in Cranberry Woods. A significant portion of the roughly 824,000-square-foot campus is slated to be sublet from Westinghouse to other companies, as the headquarters has downsized since its bankruptcy and later sale.

According to the gas company's website, it is the exploration and production subsidiary of National Fuel Gas Co., a publicly traded company, and primarily focuses on reserves in California and Appalachia. It has a significant amount of mineral rights in north-central Pennsylvania, where the Marcellus Shale is found as well as northwestern Pennsylvania and upstate New York.

Cranberry township manager Jerry Andree said he's glad Westinghouse, which at one time employed roughly 5,000 people at the Cranberry headquarters, is finding business tenants at its campus.

“We always like when they're subleasing that building. We like a diversified business environment; a lot of small businesses instead of one large business,” Andree said. “We're very pleased with the progress Westinghouse has made with subleasing the building.”

He said Seneca Resources will have about 80 employees in the township.

It joins a handful of other businesses that have leased space inside the campus, including a financial institution, health care companies, an energy services business and an online nursing school.
