Knoch High School announced Monday the school was canceling both graduation and prom. The events were postponed to the end of July due to the coronavirus.

Knoch High School Principal Todd Trofimuk announced in a letter on the school's website Monday that both the school's prom and graduation were canceled. He cited the local increase of COVID-19 cases, the trend of counties tightening restrictions and the occupancy restriction of 250 people put in place by Gov. Tom Wolf's reopening plan along the state Department of Education's discouragement of large group gatherings as reasons for canceling the events.

“Throughout the Spring semester we held out hope that the guidelines and restrictions placed on schools and businesses due to COVID-19 would ease so that we might have a traditional commencement ceremony, senior banquet and prom,” said Trofimuk in the release. “With the recent increase in COVID-19 cases locally and the trend of counties tightening restrictions, at this time, we cannot hold the postponed Graduation Ceremony for July 30, 2020 or Prom planned for July 31, 2020.”

Trofimuk noted at the end of the release that the announcement for Prom King and Queen will be announced in the near future on the school's website.
