PENN TWP — Two people on a motorcycle were injured around noon Monday after witnesses said the motorcycle struck a deer on Route 8 south near Larchwood Drive in Penn Township.

Both people on the bike were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Two medical helicopters were standing by at Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport in case either person had to be flown to a trauma center.

Penn and Middlesex township police and firefighters responded to the accident and restricted traffic to one lane in each direction while they investigated and cleared the scene.

At least one person on the bike was wearing a helmet.

Firefighters searched a wooded area along the road for the deer, but didn’t find one.
