Three Mars Area High School students were selected to receive Society of Women Engineers Pittsburgh Section Certificates of Merit.

Senior Ashley Edwards, junior Elizabeth Long and sophomore Lauren Miko were selected for their outstanding ability and high achievement in mathematics and science, as well as their interest in pursuing careers in STEM-related fields.

Four Seneca Valley School District students won first place in a computer science competition in May.The team, which included David Choi, Vincent Horvath, Sam McCune and Drew Vlasnik, took first place in the virtual competition, hosted by Westminster College on May 29.The four students completed five of six problems.They are all students in an Advanced Placement computer science course at Seneca Valley.A second Seneca Valley team took third place i the 2020 contest. That team was composed of Andy Chrzanowski, Daniel Spear and Renhan Xu.The Westminster High School Programming Contest is an opportunity for area high school students to show off their programming abilities in a competitive environment.It is modeled after the International Collegiate Programming Contest, in which teams of students work to solve a set of programming problems using limited responses from judges to guide them.

Two recent Butler Area High School graduates have been named as recipients of the 2020 Rosanne Cavalero and Jane Cavalero Scholarships.The Rosanne and Jane Cavalero Scholarships are distributed through the Wellington C. Carl Fund of the Pittsburgh Foundation.The Rosanne and Jane Cavalero Scholarships funds provide scholarships in equal shares to the male and female graduates from Butler Area High School who have the highest cumulative grade point average and also who pursue post-secondary education.Lea E. Codispot will receive $7,085.She is the daughter of Robert and Traci Codispot of Butler.She plans to study business analytics at Bucknell University.Alec G. Stamm will also receive $7,085.He is the son of Robert and Colleen Stamm of Butler.He is planning to attend Hillsdale College, majoring in economics and pre-law.
