8 Butler seniors receive Vogeley scholarships

Kendyl M. Hilliard, a member of the Butler Area High School Class of 2020, was selected as recipient of the 38th annual Theodore K. Vogeley Scholarship.

She was chosen from 44 applicants, 21 of whom were interviewed. The scholarship will cover full tuition, fixed fees, room and board, and books.

The daughter of David and Brenda Hilliard, of Butler, plans to attend Robert Morris University to major in nursing. She is involved with Best Buddies, Future Business Leaders of America and student council.

The number of Vogeley recipients varies each year due to interest earned on the trust and the costs of colleges or universities. A committee of three is responsible for selecting the recipients from among Butler High School seniors.

Due to the availability of remaining funds, two other students will receive a four-year fixed-amount scholarship and five students will receive one-time grants.Receiving the $5,500 per year for a maximum of $22,000 after four years are Alec Stamm and Carter Stanton.Alec is the son of Robert and Colleen Stamm, of Butler. He is on the school varsity rifle team, and belongs to the marching band and YMCA Youth and Government. He plans to attend Hillsdale College to major in economics and pre-law.Carter is the son of Shawn and Melissa Stanton, of Butler. He participated in BTTV, Skyliner and Random Acts of Kindness Club and spoke at Career Choices Assembly. Carter plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study sports media.Awarded one-time grants of $2,000 each were Andrew Arbanas, son of Thomas and Jacquelyn Arbanas, of Chicora, who plans to attend Penn State University to study material science engineering; Lea Codispot, daughter of Robert and Traci Codispot, of Butler, who plans to attend Bucknell University to study business analytics;

Zachary Doerr, son of Thomas and Lori Doerr, of Butler, who plans to study naval architecture and marine engineering at Webb Institute; Alexandra Kreinbucher, daughter of Charles and Kathleen Kreinbucher, of Butler, who plans to attend Gannon University and major in pre-medicine;And Caravel Losch, daughter of Mary Jo Losch, of Butler, and the late Ralph Losch, who will study marine operations at State University of New York Maritime College.
