COVID UPDATE 5/29: Butler Counting moving to green on June 5

The Butler County Commissioners, announced Friday that the county has been selected to move on June 5 to the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf's plans to reopen the state's economy.

The Butler County Commissioners announced Friday that the county has been selected to move on June 5 to the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf's plans to reopen the state's economy.

At the announcement, the commissioners spoke about their plans to go “beyond green.”

About an hour after the commissioners' announcement, The Associated Press reported that 16 counties would move to the green phase, including Butler County and some of its neighbors.

The counties include Allegheny, Armstrong, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Clinton, Fayette, Fulton, Greene, Indiana, Lycoming, Mercer, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland.

Wolf will conduct his own briefing alongside Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine at 2 p.m. Friday.

Moving to the green phase would lift many of the restrictions the governor put in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus. For more information about which restrictions might be lifted in the green phase, visit www.governor.pa.gov.

Meanwhile, the county's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by one to 227. Its death toll remained at 12.

The following numbers on the coronavirus pandemic were compiled from the regular news releases from the state Department of Health figures and the Butler Health System.
