May 18 — Jesse C. Kastelic, 24, of Clay Township, was charged with having marijuana and other contraband stemming from a traffic stop earlier this month on South Monroe Street. He was a passenger in a pickup truck that was stopped around 4:45 p.m. May 6.

A vehicle search turned up a pill bottle containing suspected marijuana and a marijuana pipe, which Kastelic allegedly admitted were his, according to court documents.

Police also allegedly found two crack pipes. Kastelic and the driver, Edge W. Kerry, 26, of Slippery Rock, denied ownership of those pipes. Kastelic is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Kerry is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

9:15 p.m. May 17 — Ivan L. Plesakov, 25, allegedly assaulted his mother during a domestic dispute at his home on Valley Street. He is accused of slamming the woman’s head into a concrete step and threatening her while holding a knife.

Police said they found the victim standing next to a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Valley and East Brady streets. Officers described her as “shaking,” and she appeared “terrified.” She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with swelling on the back of her head. She also complained of blurry vision, pain in her right foot and nausea, according to court documents.

Plesakov is charged in an arrest warrant with terroristic threats and simple assault.

8:50 a.m. Saturday — A pickup truck driven by Richard E. Haskin, 47, of Butler, struck a mailbox along Whitestown Road in Connoquenessing Township. The truck traveled back onto the road, crossed both lanes and stopped in a field.

Police said Haskin tried to drive out of the field, but became stuck on an embankment. He caused unspecified damage before getting out of the truck and leaving the scene. He was cited for hit-and-run, disregarding traffic lanes, driving too fast for conditions and careless driving.

8:43 a.m. Saturday — No injuries were reported when the driver of a car swerved to avoid another car that had abruptly stopped in front of her, causing her to hit an embankment on Route 422 in Franklin Township. Police did not release the woman’s name. Her car sustained minor damage.

7:34 a.m. Saturday — A pickup truck driven by a Georgia man struck a deer on Interstate 79 south just north of West Park Road in Worth Township. Thomas J. Herman, 53, of Kingsland, was not injured.

12:46 p.m. Friday — One person was injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Oakland Township. The crash occurred when Brianna M. Geibel, 19, of Butler, lost control of her car on Route 38 between Hohn Farm and Mahood roads.

The car hit and bounced off an embankment, traveled back across the road and collided with a vehicle driven by Alexander T. Edmonds, 27, of Chicora. Geibel’s passenger, Harin L. Gold, 20, of West Sunbury, suffered an apparent minor injury. The investigation continues.

12:25 p.m. Friday — Brittany A. Anderson, 29, of Butler lost control of her sport utility vehicle and struck an embankment on Hooker Road in Clay Township. Neither she nor a passenger, a 9-year-old girl, was injured.

9:24 a.m. Friday — Jennifer L. Campbell, 37, of Chicora, was injured in a two-vehicle wreck that occurred when she tried to make a left turn from Route 68 to the Route 422 on-ramp in Summit Township. Her sport utility vehicle collided with a pickup driven by Brian J. Hiles, 35, of Butler. Police said Campbell was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

11:44 p.m. May 21 — Cody L. Swager, 27, of Winfield Township, was arrested after he allegedly violated a 33-year-old woman’s protection from abuse order at a home on Stoney Hollow Road in Winfield Township.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Swager on a charge of indirect criminal contempt, and he was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond with conditions that be released on pretrial supervision and placed on house arrest.

7:49 a.m. May 21 — No one was injured when an SUV driven by Margaretta J. Seydel, 58, of Evans City, tried to make a right turn and struck a minivan at Route 528 and Boy Scout Road in Connoquenessing Township. Kyle M. Hopkins, 36, of Evans City, was the other driver. Police cited Seydel in the crash.

6:44 p.m. May 20 — An unknown hit-and-run driver struck a car on Interstate 79 north in Cranberry Township. No injuries were reported.

The other driver, Indu Muthuswamy, 32, of Pittsburgh, told police that she was in the right lane and attempting to merge into the left lane ahead of the other vehicle, which was in the left lane. The other driver accelerated and struck her car.
