2:09 p.m. Thursday — Brandon M. Leath, 29, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly stole four cartons of cigarettes, valued at $342.40, at the E-Z Stop store on North Main Street.

Police said the call initially came in as a robbery in progress. Officers got there and found two men, one a store clerk, restraining another man, who police subsequently identified as Leath, according to court documents.

The clerk told police that the defendant had entered the store and asked for four cartons of cigarettes. While the employee checked identification and debit card that Leath presented, the suspect grabbed the cigarettes and fled the store.

Leath was arraigned on a first-degree misdemeanor count of retail theft, and he was released on his own recognizance.

April 27 — Savanna N. Watterson, 18, of Hilliards was charged with drugged driving stemming from a crash earlier that month at the Hampton Inn parking lot at Butler Crossing. Police said she struck a parking vehicle about 8:50 a.m. April 7.

Watterson is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving.

Saturday — Police cited the Clearview Mall Wendy’s restaurant in Center Township for having nine false alarm activations within a 12-month period.

7:45 p.m. Friday — An unknown shoplifter reportedly stole two 24-ounce cans of beer at the Sheetz store on Route 8 in Center Township. The suspect is described as a male, about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a light-colored medical-style mask, a camouflage and blue jeans.

Police he also driving a blue, 2008 Pontiac sedan with the Pennsylvania license plate

8:16 p.m. Thursday — A 54-year-old woman reported that someone stole her sport utility vehicle from the Bruin Service Station on Main Street in Bruin. The vehicle — a green, 2003 Subaru Legacy — was last seen headed both on Main Street toward Parker City.

The SUV had the Pennsylvania license plate LBD-7113. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

3:22 p.m. Thursday — No one was injured when a pickup truck driven by Dalton N. Ashton, 22, of Butler rear-ended an SUV on Route 68 just east of Shannon Road in Connoquenessing Township. Jennifer R. Schaub, 51, of Butler was the other driver.

The pickup was towed. Police cited Ashton for driving too fast for conditions.

6:13 p.m. May 4 — Two unidentified shoplifters made off with $63.79 worth of food items at the Hilltop Plaza Walmart in East Franklin Township. Both suspects are white females.

One of the suspects, police said, was wearing a black zip-up jacket with pink stripes on the sleeves, black leggings and white shoes. The other suspect was wearing a black baseball hat backward, a blue zip-up jacket, blue jeans and white shoes.

Wednesday — Police cited three people, one from Butler County, stemming from a traffic-related incident earlier in the month at Premium Outlets in Springfield Township.

According to a police report, Drew A. Kennedy, 23, of Cranberry Township and Paidge N. Gray, 23, of Rochester, Beaver County, were walking in the parking area when they got into an altercation with Paul A. Champlin, 70, of Niles, Ohio, who was driving a vehicle.

Champlin honked his horn and told Kennedy and Gray to get out of the way, but instead they remained in front of the Ohio man’s vehicle. The driver pulled slightly ahead and struck the other two, who were not injured or knocked to the ground.

Kennedy and Gray continued to remain in front of the vehicle, police said. When Champlin tried to pull forward a second time, the other two allegedly kicked the front of the vehicle.

Champlin was cited for harassment. Kennedy and Gray were both cited for disorderly conduct.
