County COVID-19 cases stall; BHS sees increase in hospitalizations

Butler County's statistics on the coronavirus remain the same according to the state, but Butler Health System reported an increase in hospitalized patients from 11 to 15.

BHS spokeswoman Jana Panther said the system is also monitoring personal protective equipment supplies a little more closely in the wake of Gov. Tom Wolf's executive order that would allow him to redistribute PPE if needed.

“BHS will do whatever it must to assure that its patients and staff are protected, and that it has the PPE necessary to render care safely,” Panther said.

Panther said the system is also encouraging patients to avoid the emergency department as much as possible and use telehealth opportunities, if they are available.

“(Doctors) can handle many patient needs remotely, while keeping them at home,” Panther said.

While PPE is a widely discussed topic on many levels, Panther said the system's medical supplies are adequate at this time, but it will accept any donations of personal protective equipment. These arrangements may be made by emailing covid19donations@butlerhealthsystem.org.
