Metcalfe calls for end of shutdown

CRANBERRY — State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-12th, sent a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday urging him to rescind his unconstitutional and overreaching COVID-19 lockdown.

“The COVID-19 virus, the social distancing response and the natural reaction of our citizens to minimize their exposure has created economic problems for our state and nation,” Metcalfe said.

Metcalfe said Wolf's policies regarding COVID-19 are unconstitutional.

“Incompetence and disregard for your fellow man was on full display when you shut down the interstate highways' and Turnpike's rest areas and restrooms,” he said.

Metcalfe also took issue with Wolf's classification system between non-life sustaining jobs and its counterpart. He said it was demeaning to many and prevented people from providing for their families.

“Then you backtracked and created a waiver program that put bureaucrats in control of deciding who can provide for their families and who cannot,” Metcalfe said.

Metcalfe said citizens should be encouraged but not ordered to practice social distancing and other good health practices.

“Our citizens must have the hope of an end in sight,” he said. “Our citizens must have hope of being able to earn the money they need to put bread on their tables while we wrestle through the economic impact of the virus.
