Hanratty battling coronavirus

Terry Hanratty, a 1965 Butler graduate and former Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback, has tested positive for the coronaviris.

Hanratty, 72, was a member of the Steelers' first two Super Bowl teams. He played in the NFL from 1969-76 before retiring at age 29.

Hanratty responded in a text that he was “too weak” to conduct an interview right now. He lives in New York and worked on Wall Sreet for 30 years.

Staying connected to football, Hanratty announced the Steelers' second-round draft selection in 2014 and returned to Butler in 2016 to present his alma mater with a “golden football” from the Pro Football Hall of Fame prior to a Golden Tornado game at Art Bernardi Stadium.

A three-year starter at Notre Dame, Hanratty was quarterback of the Fighting Irish' 1966 national championship team. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior year.

Hanratty was drafted in the second round by the Steelers in 1969.
